Youth Parliament is a program run by the YMCA of SA.
It gives young people an opportunity to have their say in the way our state is run.
The program spans around 6 months, with applicants between the ages of 16-25 invited from all over South Australia.
There are four key structures of the program:
Task Force: a team of 12-14 people who volunteer their time to take care of planning and implementing the detail of the program including: supporting participants, mentoring teams, operational logisitics, training and media liaision.
Team meetings: where you and your allocated team get together informally to develop a bill you have chosen
Training Weekend: involving SACE and Accredited Training components you will spend 2 days finding out all you need to know about how to develop a bill, public speaking and parliamentary process.
Residential Week: a week-long camp spent together with your fellow youth parliamentarians and the culmination of all your hard work. It includes 4 days debating in SA Parliament House with formal Opening and Closing Ceremonies, a Government House Reception, a full Recreation Day off and lots of fun!
